On my block, there is no place to hide. No reason or rhyme, to fit this state of mind. On my block, the snowflakes twist and fall, touch the ground, and pass right through. On my block, the people stop and stare. Even when I know, they don't really see me there. Trees stand proud and bare, in wait for the touch of spring. I know just how they feel, I'm right there with them waiting. I know that what is left, is just a state of mind, the distance over time, the sum of what we find. We calibrate our lives, we measure and divide, and it's weighing on my mind. On my block, jackhammers start at six a.m., interrupt my sleep, to carve out the day again. On my block, the sirens call out in vain. I'm a lucky man, while my spirit intact, remains. The die may well be cast, the stars may well prevail, the course already set, the compass never fails, the risks you want to take, the words you want to speak, the reasons that you give, the promises you make. The parts of you that miss, the angels who depart, the boats that come and go, in the calmness of the port, the light that guides you on, the swelling in your heart, the wind that fills your sail, and the sea you cannot part. On my block life goes on, with you here, or with you gone.
